Honeymoon in Marrakech: A Romantic Guide for Two

Published on 6/5/2026 Β· 8 min read

A honeymoon is the one trip you plan for two people and no one else. It does not need to be long, and it does not need a packed itinerary β€” it needs the right place, a handful of unforgettable moments, and the privacy to enjoy them slowly. Marrakech, it turns out, is built for exactly that. A walled medina of hidden courtyards, rooftop sunsets, steam rooms scented with rose, and a desert an hour away where the stars come out by the thousand. We host couples through every season here, and this is the honest guide we wish every newlywed had before they arrived.

Why Marrakech for your honeymoon

Marrakech works for couples because it concentrates so much romance into so little distance. Within the old walls you can wander palaces and gardens by day, lose yourselves in the souks, and be back on a quiet rooftop for sunset within minutes. The city is exotic without being exhausting: short flights from most of Europe, no jet lag to speak of, and a warmth β€” in the weather and the welcome β€” that makes you want to slow down the moment you arrive.

It is also a place of contrasts that suit two people discovering somewhere together. The pink ramparts and the snow-capped Atlas on the horizon. The din of Jemaa el-Fna and the cool silence of a private patio. Mint tea in a riad courtyard one afternoon, and a candlelit dinner under the stars that same night. You do not have to choose between adventure and intimacy here. You get both, often within the same hour.

And then there is the value. A honeymoon deserves a touch of luxury, and in Marrakech that luxury β€” a private suite, a couples spa ritual, a dinner cooked just for you β€” costs a fraction of what it would in Europe or the Maldives. The romance is generous, and so is the budget.

The most romantic experiences

A private rooftop dinner under the stars

If you do one thing for your honeymoon, make it this. A table for two set on a riad rooftop, lanterns lit, the medina humming softly below and the Atlas Mountains turning violet on the horizon. A traditional Moroccan menu β€” tagine, fragrant couscous, pastries and mint tea β€” served slowly, just for you, with no other guests and nowhere you need to be. Our concierge arranges private rooftop dinners on request, and it is the single most requested moment of every honeymoon we host.

A couples hammam and spa ritual

The hammam is Morocco's oldest ritual of care, and shared as a couple it becomes something tender. You enter a warm chamber of steam and dim light, your skin is cleansed with black soap and scrubbed smooth, and the day's travel simply melts off you both. At the riad our solar-heated spa and hammam is open from 9am to 9pm and built for two: a couples ritual you can book a few steps from your suite, followed by an oil massage and mint tea. It is the most quietly romantic afternoon you can give each other.

Sunset over the medina and the Atlas

Marrakech sunsets are famous for a reason β€” the light turns the whole city rose-gold, and the call to prayer drifts across the rooftops as the sun drops behind the mountains. Watch it from your own terrace with a glass in hand, or climb to a cafΓ© rooftop near Jemaa el-Fna to see the great square flicker to life with lanterns and smoke below you. Either way, find a high place at golden hour. It is free, and it is the most romantic thing the city does every single evening.

Majorelle and the secret gardens

By day, Marrakech rewards couples who wander. The Jardin Majorelle is the famous one β€” cobalt-blue walls, bamboo and cactus, the former garden of Yves Saint Laurent β€” and it is worth the early-morning queue to have it half to yourselves. Nearby, the quieter Le Jardin Secret in the medina offers shaded courtyards and a tower view, and the Menara gardens give you a vast olive grove and a still reflecting pool with the Atlas behind it. These are the slow, hand-in-hand mornings honeymoons are made of.

A night in the Agafay desert

For one night, trade the city for the silence of the dunes. The Agafay desert is a landscape of rolling stone hills barely an hour from Marrakech, and at dusk a luxury camp there feels like the edge of the world. Dinner around a fire, Berber music, a sky so thick with stars you will forget the city exists, and a tented suite to fall asleep in. Our concierge can build an overnight Agafay escape into your stay; see a few options on our experiences page. It is the most cinematic night a Marrakech honeymoon can offer.

Where to stay: a boutique riad for two

Where you sleep matters more on a honeymoon than on any other trip, because the room is half the experience. A large hotel cannot give you what a small riad can: privacy, silence, and the feeling of being looked after personally. A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built inward around a courtyard, with no street-facing windows β€” the architecture exists to keep the world out and the calm in. For two people who want to disappear together, nothing else compares.

Riad Zeitoun Palace holds just six suites in the heart of the medina, at 120 Derb Sidi Moussa, a five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fna and eight minutes from the Bahia Palace. Six suites means no crowds, no queue at breakfast, no neighbors down a long corridor β€” the house feels, for a few days, almost like yours. You can see all of them on our suites page and choose the one that fits your trip.

For honeymooners we point you straight to the Suite Bahia. It is designed for couples: a king bed, a double walk-in shower, and an intimate, light-filled layout made for two people and no one else. Wake up to a Moroccan breakfast β€” pancakes, fresh bread, local honey, fruit and mint tea β€” carried up to the terrace or out to the courtyard each morning. And throughout your stay our in-house concierge is on hand to arrange the rooftop dinner, the couples hammam, the Agafay night and the airport transfer, so the only thing you have to plan is each other.

Practical tips

When to go. The loveliest months for a Marrakech honeymoon are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when days are warm and evenings are perfect for dining outdoors. Summer is hot but quiet and well-priced, and the riad's courtyard stays cool. Winter days are mild and golden, with cold desert nights that make the fire and the steam room all the more romantic.

How long to stay. Four to five nights is the sweet spot. It gives you two unhurried days inside the medina, one for a garden or a hammam, one for an Agafay desert escape, and still leaves time to do nothing at all on the rooftop. Add a few nights on the coast in Essaouira if you want sea air to follow the city.

Getting there and around. Marrakech Menara airport is fifteen minutes from the medina. Cars cannot always reach a riad's door, so arrange a private transfer in advance rather than negotiating a taxi while jet-lagged β€” ours is just 22€ per vehicle, and a porter carries your bags the final stretch through the alleys. Inside the medina, everything romantic is on foot.

Book direct. Reserve the suite straight with the riad rather than through a third-party platform. You will pay less β€” typically up to 10% below the same room on Booking or Airbnb β€” and you get a real person on WhatsApp to plan the surprises before you arrive. You can book direct here.

Frequently asked questions

Which riad is best for a honeymoon in Marrakech?

Look for a small, boutique riad where privacy is built in rather than promised. Riad Zeitoun Palace has only six suites in the medina, and the Suite Bahia is designed specifically for couples, with a king bed and double shower. Fewer rooms means quieter mornings, a more personal welcome, and the sense that the house is yours.

What are the most romantic things to do in Marrakech?

A private rooftop dinner under the stars, a couples hammam and spa ritual, watching the sunset turn the medina rose-gold, slow mornings in the Majorelle and secret gardens, and an overnight escape to the Agafay desert. Most can be arranged within a single short stay, and your riad concierge can build them around you.

How many days do you need for a honeymoon in Marrakech?

Four to five nights is ideal. That is enough for the medina, a garden, a couples hammam and a desert night without rushing, while still leaving lazy hours on the terrace. If you have longer, add a few nights by the sea in Essaouira.

Can we have a private dinner just for the two of us?

Yes. A private rooftop dinner is the most requested honeymoon moment we host β€” a table for two, lanterns and candles, a traditional Moroccan menu served slowly with no other guests. Ask the concierge when you book and it will be ready and waiting on the evening you choose.

A honeymoon in Marrakech asks very little of you and gives a great deal back: a few warm days, a handful of perfect evenings, and the rare luxury of being entirely alone together in a place that feels like a secret. Choose a quiet riad, leave room in the days to do nothing, and let the city be romantic on your behalf. It always is.
